Athletic Supplies

Baseball Athletic Supplies includes the baseball, (a cork sphere, tightly wound with layers of yarn or string and covered with a stitched leather coat) is the most fundamental piece of Athletic Supplies in the game. Also used is the baseball bat, (a rounded, solid wooden bat). Wooden bats are traditionally made from ash wood, though maple is also sometimes used. Aluminum bats are not permitted in professional leagues, but are frequently used in amateur leagues. Composite bats are also available, essentially wooden bats with a metal rod inside. Bamboo bats are also becoming popular. Gloves of leather are worn by players in the field. Long fingers and a webbed “pocket” between the thumb and first finger allows the fielder to catch the ball more easily. Other baseball Athletic Supplies includes batting helmets, batting gloves, catcher’s mitt, baseball cap and bases.

Hockey Athletic Supplies include Shoulder pads – also includes torso and spine protection from flying pucks and most collisions, Elbow pads – provides forearm and triceps protection against pucks in addition to a reinforced elbow cup, Hockey Gloves – protects the hands; player’s gloves are constructed with a very thin palm and fingers while providing substantially more padding to the outside of the hands; also reinforces the thumb to prevent it bending backwards. Ice skates – incorporate a rigid shell, often reinforced with metal mesh to prevent a skate blade cutting through. Unlike figure skates, hockey skates have a rounded heel and no toe picks as these can be dangerous in a “pile-up”. And a Hockey stick – Made of wood or composite materials.

Football sports equipment consists of a football, (an oblong sphere which is pointed on both ends) which is passed, kicked or handed to another teammate during a game. More equipment is padding that players wear to minimize injuries when tackled (shoulder pads, shin pads, thigh pads, mouthpiece, helmet, etc.). The football uniform is a crucial part of football sports equipment because it helps other players identify which players are on the same team. Other items are the first down marker which tells what down it is and is positioned at the line where the ball is on the field showing how far to go for a first down. You also have pylons marking the corners of the field at the goal lines. Goal posts are placed at both ends of the football field and are used for field goal kickers try and kick the football between the goal posts from an upright position on the ground.

The main athletic supplies for Basketball is the rectangular floor surface that is usually made out of hardwood, often maple, and highly polished for indoor play, that is known as the Basketball Court. The basketball court also consists of baskets at either end of the court which the object of the game is to shoot the ball through the baskets to score points. Basketball was originally played with a soccer ball. The first balls made specifically for basketball were brown, and it was in the late 1950’s that they were looking for something that would be more visible to players and spectators alike, and the orange ball was introduced and now is most commonly used in the sport today. Though there are not really many athletic supplies for basketball you can purchase backboards and rims to create your own versions of the game in the back yard or even on the hard surface of a drive way or similar areas.
